ANR Group Inc is recruiting students currently enrolled in Environmental Sciences,  Archaeology,  Anthropology,  Cultural Resource Management,  Museums,  Information or Library Science,  History or GIS for a summer internship opportunity with Hanford Mission Integration Solutions on the Hanford site in Richland,  WA.

This internship is open to students with any class standing that can be available for a 12-to-14-week internship between May/June 2024 and September 30,  2024.  This position is a full-time,  40 hour per week internship.  The schedule is Monday-  Thursday,  6 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m.  The hourly rate for this position is $21.55 to 23.93 per hour,  depending on class standing.

Responsibilities

HMIS is seeking an intern to support the HMIS Cultural and Historic Resources Program (CHRP)  the Hanford Site.  The focus of the internship will be to assist with activities related to Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Hanford Site Programmatic Agreement for the historic built environment.  Other work includes records maintenance and digitization,  assisting on daily projects,  and assisting on administrative tasks within the program.  Under the supervision of staff,  the intern will perform duties including,  but not limited to:

  • Assist with Cultural and Historic Resources Program (CHRP)  fieldwork (e.g.  survey,  site testing,  site evaluation,  data recovery,  cultural resource monitoring)  as required.
  • Digitize project and site archives.
  • Organize digital files.
  • Assist with collections acquisitions,  accessions,  inventories,  assessments,  organization,  cataloging,  tagging,  tracking,  etc.  as directed.
  • Assist with other HMIS Environmental Program tasks as needed.
  • Participate in and foster a work environment that is based upon openness,  trust,  communication,  teamwork,  empowerment,  innovation,  and satisfaction.
  • Conduct work in a manner that ensures protection for employees,  the public,  and the environment.
  • Integrate working safely into work practices at all levels,  addressing all types of potential hazards.

The intern will work under immediate supervision of program mentors and receive general instructions on sequencing and planning of work for routine,  repetitive chores where work is controlled by procedures.  Instructions for unusual assignments are given on a task basis.  Routine work is spot-checked,  and other work is inspected by a supervisor.  Any specialized training tasks are performed under close supervision and guidance.

This position requires the ability to do repetitive and manual work paying close attention to detail.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the internship.
  • A recent high school graduate,  enrolled in college or university classes for Fall 2024,  or college students,  enrolled fulltime (12+  credit hours)  that have completed at least two quarters/semesters of college education prior to the internship.
  • Obtain and maintain an active Washington State driver’s license.
  • Able to walk/hike cross country for up to 10 miles a day in potentially adverse weather conditions. 
  • Requires excellent written,  oral,  listening,  and presentation skills.  Must be able to perform multiple job tasks simultaneously to effectively manage assignments and support initiatives.
  • Requires mid-level experience in a variety of computer programs such as:  Word,  E-mail program (Outlook),  Excel,  PowerPoint,  and databases.
  • Requires ability to identify issues,  collect data,  establish facts,  draw conclusions,  and make decisions within the boundaries of established procedures.
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors under all weather conditions (extreme heat,  wind,  rain).
