ANR Group Inc is recruiting students currently enrolled in Environmental sciences,  Botany,  Ecosystems,  Range Science and Habitat sciences for two (2)  summer internship opportunities with Hanford Mission Integration Solutions on the Hanford site in Richland,  WA.

This internship is open to students with Junior class standing that can be available for a 12 to 14 week internship between April 1,  2024 and September 30,  2024.  This position is a full-time,  40 hour per week internship.  The schedule is Monday-  Thursday,  6 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m.  The hourly rate for this position is $21.83 per hour.

Responsibilities

Complete extensive field surveys in shrub steppe habitat identifying,  recording,  and mapping vegetation and noxious weeds for the ecological monitoring program on the Hanford Site.  Work will include identification and recording of both native and nonnative plant species,  habitat types,  mapping,  and data management.  Scope will include both field work and office tasks.  During execution of the scope the selected candidate will be required to identify plant species,  support field surveys,  scientific note collection techniques,  data management and summary writing.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA
  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the internship.
  • Completed at least two quarters/semesters of college education prior to the internship.
  • Enrolled as a full-time student (12+  credit hours)  during the two quarters/semesters immediately preceding the start of the internship. **You may be required to submit an updated transcript prior to being considered for employment.
  • Achieved or working towards degree in botany,  environmental sciences,  biology,  or ecosystem management.
  • Interest in monitoring plants and habitats in the shrub-steppe ecosystem.
  • Must be capable of hiking long distances (5-10 miles)  through variable terrain while carrying equipment.
  • Must be physically able to work outdoors under all weather conditions (extreme heat,  wind,  rain).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Higher level writing courses that include technical writing in scientific disciplines.
  • Courses directly related to plant identification or shrub-steppe ecosystems.
  • Experience navigating terrain using GPS units.
  • Experience managing and analyzing data using ArcGIS.
