Description

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS)  is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland,  WA.  The WRPS mission is to safely store,  retrieve,  and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste.  This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated engineering organization.  WRPS was identified as “One of America’s Safest Companies”  in 2020;  and was the recipient of the 2021 “Employee of the Year”  by the Association of Washington Businesses.

The Delta High School Internship Program at WRPS provides professional development opportunities for students to gain valuable work experience on the Hanford Site.  Applicant must be a student at Delta High School in Pasco,  Washington and participating in a Science,  Technology,  Engineering and Math course of studies.

Responsibilities

The High School Student Intern will work under the direction of an engineering professional staff member in the Process Software Engineering group.

Under direct supervision or mentorship of professional staff,  intern will assist the web application development team in various support roles.  Activities assigned will be somewhat rudimentary in nature,  but will vary depending on development and administrative skills and abilities.  Potential assignments include:  migrating internal organization websites from HTML to SharePoint,  assisting with testing and documentation of software,  assisting system admins with basic server support,  data migration from spreadsheets to databases,  or assisting in the administration of Azure DevOps.  Other basic development tasks may be assigned pending interest and experience.

Intern will be expected to have an interest in Computer Science and an introductory familiarity with basic web development or computer programming.

Qualifications

Student must complete/meet all employment and security requirements at time of hire,  specifically:
*  Must be 18 years of age
*  I-9 eligibility for E-Verify
*  Background Check
*  Drug Test
*  Attend WRPS New Employee Orientation
*  Complete Hanford General Employee Training (HGET)

Applicant must be a student at Delta High School in Pasco,  Washington and participating in a Science,  Technology,  Engineering and Math course of studies.

Student must have Program approval from the STEM Coordinator,  Juli Troxel.

Hourly Rate:  $16.28

In accordance with the Service Contract Act,  this position is also eligible for the health &  welfare wage adder of up to $4.41 per hour.
