Join us this summer with an opportunity to learn and grow with hands-on professional experience as a Communications Intern!

This is an exciting opportunity for a college enrolled student interested in a path geared towards Communications,  Marketing or Public Relations with real-world learning and exposure to various opportunities in a business setting allowing for cross-functional collaboration in a variety of departments. The successful candidate will gain experience in the communications field with exposure to the unique qualities of the electrical utility industry and what it means to work in public power.

This is a full-time,  non-exempt,  temporary position with an expected duration of 10 to 12 weeks over the Summer.  Some evenings and weekend work is required.  There are limited benefits available with this position.  Time off and flexibility will be allowed with approval for various school and/or summer activities during the internship.

Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Communications team with a variety of internal and external customer communication efforts including:

  1. Highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly assimilate into a team. 
  2. Good listening and questioning skills and the ability to establish project objectives and priorities. 
  3. Self-starter with strong project and task management discipline and skills. 
  4. Desire and ability to quickly learn new software systems through direct instruction and independent study. 
  5. Creative communication and design qualities with strong technical verbal and writing skills for print and non-print marketing materials.
  6. Strong aptitude for researching and applying new equipment and technology. 
  7. Strong core competency in communications fundamentals.
  8. Strong interest and comfortability with community event coordination and public involvement.
  9. Video creation skills
  10. Experience with social media postings and web updates

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Projects will include working independently and with team members under the direction of the communications staff.  Example duties include:

  1. Assist with employer branding initiatives to help share the culture of Benton PUD through creative branding and marketing using a variety of multimedia.
  2. Assist with internal employee communications by helping to create content,  graphics/artwork/publications for assigned projects for a variety of multimedia including internal newsletters,  communications monitors,  and internal website.
  3. Assist with event promotion and outreach including logistics,  event preparation (set up/take down),  and promotional items/swag for a variety of community involvement events throughout the summer (e.g.,  Benton Franklin County Fair/Parade).

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED

Enrolled in college courses with studies toward an AAS/BAS in Business Administration,  Communications,  Marketing,  Public Relations or equivalent.

Preferred:
Experience with Adobe,  or similar multimedia software
Experience with videography skills (video capture,  creation,  design/editing)
Intermediate-Advanced Microsoft Office Suite including publishing effects

Valid driver’s license
