Description

This position is an opportunity for college students to seek knowledge and experience in the Grain Industry.  This is a paid internship program paying $18.00 an hour and will include a structured work schedule,  exposure to leadership,  a mentor and learning opportunities.  Exposure to the origination of grains and oilseeds,  purchase negotiation and contracting,  logistics management,  and delivery of purchased grain from the country elevators to the export terminal..  Will evaluate how marketing plans are created with producers utilizing UGC marketing tools and advisory services via the Profit Partner Program (need to include a trademark logo)  .  The opportunity is supported from and with regular communications  with Merchandising staff,  Logistics Managers,  Elevator Managers so that a full spectrum of the business is presented.   This position will be required to maintain a positive,  forthright attitude that promotes a collaborative,  respectful,  and diverse Corporate culture,  and conducts themselves in a professional and favorable manner.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Will interact with Merchandising team and learn/observe communications with customers and the marketing process.  Primary duties will include reviewing grain settlements,  contract entry/maintenance,  sending daily bids,  reconciling daily position reports,  balance futures hedging positions and prepare market reports and statistics for team as neccesseary.
  2. Will be expected to observe and attend meetings as directed.  Will be expected to participate in discussions and assess export and domestic strategies/opportunities.  Review and contribute to presentations and information for global customers.
  3. Will travel to Regional Elevator to work alongside Elevator Operators/Managers to gain an understanding of grain handling and warehousing as well as origination from producers.
  4. Will learn the operations of a Grain Export Terminal including inbound logistics and quality control and blending.
  5. Other duties as identified and assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  1. Working on a four-year degree in agriculture or business is required but equivalent work experience and education will be considered.
  2. Students must be a college junior or rising senior to apply at an accredited college/university and a 3.0 or higher GPA.
  3. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. 
  4. Must reside in one of the 6 states we conduct business:   WA,  OR,  ID,  MT,  ND,  and SD. 
  5. Proven interpersonal skills;  must support a team-oriented approach within the immediate facility as well as for United Grain Corporation.
  6. Ability to communicate and work effectively on a daily basis.

Physical Demands and Requirements

  • Must be computer literate with proven ability in the use of spreadsheets,  database,  and word processing software applications within a Windows-based operating environment.
  • Must be able to make decisions and work independently;  be detail-oriented with excellent communications skills,  both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
