Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)  is seeking ambitious,  high caliber sophomore,  junior or senior high school students to join the Secure Industrial Control Systems (ICS)  initiative project team for intern assignments within the Student Research Apprenticeship Program (SRAP).  This summer internship is a research-based experience for students who are sophomore,  juniors or seniors and/or students traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering.

The intern will be responsible for performing research across many different information resources –  open literature web searches,  online library and technical journal review as well as participating in focused discussions with PNNL subject matter experts in the field of cybersecurity,  control systems and Information Technology/Operational Technology (IT/OT).  Furthermore,  the intern will be provided three topics to research by the project team and will be required to document their findings,  conduct follow-on internet research and summarize their topical research in the form of a short paper.

This position is for the summer time frame only and would be beneficial for the high school intern to be located in the Washington,  DC National Capitol Region (NCR),  to facilitate active interaction between the intern and their mentor in a primarily virtual/remote environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore,  junior or senior in a public or private high school at time of application.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age by May 2021.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Relevant Course Work -  General research and information gathering by conducting web searches on a variety of Industrial Control Systems /Operational Technology (OT),  cybersecurity and forensics topic areas

Computer Skills -  Familiarity with web browsers,  utilizing search engines and using the Microsoft Office suite to organize/gather anddocument information found during research activities.

Other Desired Skills -  Follow up on tasks as assigned;  proactive communication
