This is an unpaid,  part-time AmeriCorps term of service at Spark Centralthat last 300 hours,  and upon successful completion of this term you earn an education award.  The $1300 educaton award can be applied towards tuition and student loans.  Please reach out to learn how to apply to this listing. 

Service Description: Spark Central is a nonprofit dedicated to breaking barriers to creativity,  including cost,  confidence,  and access. Level Up is an after-school program where youth create their future with the support of mentors in a playful,  creative community. Participating youth set their own goals for the program and engage with consistent mentors for social-emotional growth,  homework help,  and the pursuit of creative aspirations through clubs focused on robotics,  art,  writing,  coding,  and more. Our goal is that through creative experimentation,  youth grow in their confidence,  develop resilience to challenges,  take ownership of academics,  and discover future aspirations.  We also offer station open hours to the community.

Responsibilities

Member Duties: 

1)  Support Spark Central in the preparation,  execution,  clean up,  and organizational maintenance for Level Up and Station Open Hours,  two of our core programs.

2) Act as mentor to students in Spark Central’s Level Up program two afternoons per week including possible facilitation of a youth club.

3)  Troubleshoot,  maintain,  and sanitize program supplies and technology with direction from Spark Central program staff.

4)  Assist with program set up and clean up to ensure COVID-19 safety protocols.

5) Complete tasks relating to Level Up and Station duties,  including but not limited to,  scanning documents,  data entry,  organizing or sanitizing robotics kits,  light vacuuming,  and sanitizing tables after the programs.

6)  Develop positive personal relationships with participants.

7)  Research educational resources or supplies for purchase as directed by Spark Central program staff.

8)  Drive or chaperone students while being transported to and from Spark Central for Level Up.

8)  Attend all Spark Central volunteer trainings,  Spokane Service Team trainings,  and AmeriCorps national days of service.

9)  Maintain accurate and timely reports and timecards.

Qualifications

Must pass a background check and be a US citizen in order to qualify for AmeriCorps service.
