Responsibilities

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)  is seeking ambitious,  high-caliber junior or senior high school students for intern assignment within the High School Student Research Intern (HS SRI)  Program.  This internship provides an opportunity for students interested in preparing for careers in science,  technology,  engineering or mathematics (STEM -  or Computer Science)  to work during the academic year with a scientist/mentor in a specified research area.  Students attend regular classes in their school for one-half day.

 

This internship provides an opportunity for qualified junior and senior-level students interested in preparing for careers in science,  technology,  engineering,  or mathematics (STEM)  or Computer Science to work during the academic year with a scientist/mentor in a specified research area.   Students attend regular classes in their schools for half the day and then work up to four hours a day,  five days each week at PNNL.  This program works in collaboration with the local high school WBL program to provide elective credits.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore,  junior or senior in a public or private high school at time of application.
  • Applicants must be 16 years of age by start date.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has some experience in front-end web development (in particular React)  and software testing
  • Has some coding experience
  • Willingness to assist with usability testing for application and contributing to fixes
