Responsibilities

Hanford,  was established to produce the world’s first atomic bomb in the Second World War and continued producing plutonium for the Cold War efforts from 1945 to 1991.  Washington River Protection Solutions’  mission is to safely handle the byproduct of this massive operation,  to ensure a clean environment for future generations. 

Internships are paid and are 10 to 12 weeks in duration.  Interns must hire and onboard no later than June 26,  2023.  Housing and transportation are not provided. 

Lodging and transportation recommendations for the Tri-Cities will be provided upon request.

The Internship Program at Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS)  provides professional development opportunities for students to gain valuable work experience on the Hanford Site,  located in Southeastern Washington state.  Opportunities may be available in support of Project Operations and Project Support Services to include the following fields of practice;  Operations and Maintenance,  Construction,  Accounting,  Finance,  Human Resources,  Communications,  Project Controls Management,  Procurement,  Internal Audit and Ethics and Compliance.  Selected Interns will partner with Subject Matter Experts (SME)  (mentors)  and other staff in Project Operations and Project Support Services organizations including,  but not limited to:

Finance
Processes,  manages and maintains financial transactions and reporting for the tank operations contract in accordance with all applicable policies,  procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Procurement
Responsible for the acquisition of quality goods and services from proven suppliers/subcontractors to support the accomplishment of the Tank Operations Contract (TOC)  mission while obtaining the best value for the company and the government.

Project Integration
Providing support to the TOC Project Manager and the Work Area Managers in the coordination and integration of project and interface functions and resources.  The organization maintains authority for assigned program requirements,  provides independent assessment of effective program implementation,  and supplies qualified experts directly to the projects to assure that project work is safely and compliantly conducted in an efficient manner.

Internal Audit and Ethics and Compliance
Generally,  conform to the objectives contained in the approved charters.

Human Resources
Overseeing various aspects of recruiting,  legal compliance to labor regulations and employment standards,  administration of benefits,  through leadership and guidance,  providing effective solutions to workplace issues.

Qualifications

U.S.  Citizenship 
Minimum GPA of 2.5 
At least 18 years of age 
At least three quarters or two semesters of college education completed prior to the internship. 
Enrolled as a full-time student (12+  credit hours)  during the three quarters or two semesters immediately preceding the start of the internship.                                                                    

Compensation &  Benefits

Hourly Rate/Range:
•      Freshman -  $15.74
•      Sophomore -  $18.20
•      Junior -  $22.252 to $33.590
•      Senior -  $26.257 to $33.590

WRPS considers a candidate’s discipline of study as it relates to the position being filled and current academic standing when determining hiring rate.  Note a candidate’s prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
