Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)  is seeking ambitious,  high caliber sophomore,  junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the Student Research Apprenticeship Program (SRAP).  This summer internship is a research-based experience for students who are sophomore,  juniors or seniors and/or students traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering.

We will introduce the foundations of molecular simulation applied to chemical and biochemical sciences.  We will explore elementary programming models allowing students to apply High School science and math to advance their interest infundamental science.  Topics:  (1)  introduction to mathematical concepts of molecular simulation applied to chemical andbiochemical sciences;  (2)  analysis of simulation data and analysis code development to predict outcomes of modelchemical or biochemical systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore,  junior or senior in a public or private high school at time of application.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age by May 2021.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Course Work -  Prefer to have had taken one or more of AP (or honor)  Chemistry,  Biology,  Physics and Calculus

Computer Skills -  Elementary computer skills:  logging in;  downloading and using software;  familiarity with Microsoft,  Apple or Google products.

Other Desired Skills -  Interest in science and formalizing their High School based knowledge toward understanding of fundamental science andscientific research.  Must possess enthusiasm and adequate communication skills.  Desire and ability to work with a collaborative team of Junior and Senior Scientists.
